It's so funny that you wrote this, because I was wondering the same thing myself. I have two ideas, and would love to know what you think..

One is that as I've gotten older, I feel more comfortable being myself and saying 'No' to things that I would have tried to make myself do before.

The second is that I simply don't have as much energy as I used to have. So it is awesome to go home and relax after a full day of activities. I'm content at home (or working from home) and I don't have the feeling that I'm missing out on anything else.

Do you think it is one of these? Or, I wonder, since you are an extrovert, if it is easier to be at home more with someone there??

Thoughts??

Hi Ellen!!

In a lot of my reading, authors brought up the fact that oftentimes introverts and extroverts attract. It is no big surprise, as they can actually balance each other out. However, a lot of relationships were also under stress, due to taking these attributes personally. Things like "She doesn't understand that I need alone time"; or "He doesn't get why I always need to be around people and want him to be there".

In most scenarios I read, the advice was the same: Understand what personality type your mate is, and come up with parameters for your relationship so that both people feel safe and nurtured.

Being an "inny" I know that I need to actually work myself up for outings. A surprise group of people in my house would throw me off, or having to suddenly be on my game when I had planned to relax is so seriously off-putting that it is like an internal natural disaster!! Having to dramatically change plans, get ready quickly, or go into a loud environment can all be difficult for introverts. Having transition time between activities is helpful, as well as knowing up front what the plans are. Small gatherings are easier than large, and having the ability to duck out early is awesome.

All of these are stress-reducers, and can maybe help when you two are setting up your plans or outings together :) It probably sounds a bit strange, but it is really all about feeling safe, and knowing that the other person you want to spend time with is understanding enough to make a compromise!! (Which, I already know you are so good at!!)

Thanks for commenting :D!!

Brooke, I wonder if there is evidence that people become more introverted with age. I really believe that the older I get, the more I take on certain qualities of introverts. Let's talk about this soon! :)

Brooke, I really like this post. It makes me understand Dan better. He i is a total introvert, and I am an extrovert. I used to think that something was wrong with me that I never wanted to be alone or that I don't love having an office because it's kind of lonely. I liked the article about Caring for Your Introvert too. Very good breakdown of why Dan needs so much alone time. Thanks for inspiring me as always! Hugs, Ellen

Couldn't agree more about not giving up your passions. I'm a firm believer in that too, and there are so many ways that we can redefine our lives in order to pursue our passions.

Thanks, Suzi!! I really thought the idea of a living legacy was more inspiring. It means we have something to give, and we can get to work on it! I love your writing, too :0) How are you??
