@Colin - This is such a great story. I think sometimes you have to just cut the ties and go for it. Giving yourself an 'out' means you don't really have to put in 100%. I liked what you said about having too many options. Sometimes we just get stuck oscillating back and forth instead of saying "YES! This is what I want!" and going for it. Thanks for sharing!

@Tyler - This is so true. I'm so excited that you've decided to take the leap and go for it! Let me know if you have any questions or if there is any way I can help!!

@Nate - Hope everything is going great with you. I have found that sometimes it gets overwhelming to think of EVERYTHING we have to do for our lives and our businesses. The easiest thing to do when we get overwhelmed is to just do what's right in front of you. With so much changing on a regular basis, sometimes that is the best way to take action and move things ahead :0) Thanks for commenting!

Great post Brooke. My favorite part is "take daily action towards your dream." This is something that I've been applying very strongly in my life. I try to do at least something every day that will help my cause. It's amazing how little things add up. Hope everything is good with you!

Cortez's tactic is widely cited for a reason. It's effective. You'll hear plenty of people suggesting that you moonlight until your business can provide for your needs. For many people this makes perfect sense. In my case, I found that my job was the biggest obstacle to achieving my dreams. It offered comfort and familiarity which meant I became complacent.

No more.

When I return from vacation in early October I'm leaving my job to do freelance consulting. Sometimes it is best to burn the boat!

Nice post, Brooke.

I love it! Burn the boats!

This is exactly what I did recently, when I decided to take my business on the road and travel from country to country...something that I was not sure I would be able to do, but I was sure I WANTED to do.

I set in motion a plan that would result in the selling of all my stuff that wouldn't fit into a carry-on (including my car) and told the managers of my apartment that I would be out at the end of August.

The boats started burning, and it felt great. Knowing that you can't not move forward releases some of the stress that comes with having too many options, and it allows you to really take hold of those opportunities that might not come again.
