Hi Brooke, I enjoyed reading your article. The point you made about "living somewhere" really made me think about the term "Location Independent". After all, if you "settle in", you're now depending on that location.

This train of thought made me realize that what we've been writing about is more of a "Boundary Independent" lifestyle; our mental restrictions determine how far we physically relocate.

Leaving the cubicle is the first step ... :)

Cheers,

Mitch

Ah, to become an LIP.... one of my life goals I can tell you. It started with the downsizing although I do plan to keep a "home base". There are a few material things that I want to keep. It would involve finding a small appartement and someone willing to walk in from time to time to clear out all the mail that accumulates behind the door. I'm currently working on a "100 things" challenge (You can read more on that on my blog if you like, but only do so if you are really interested. I don't ant to lure you there or anything.) whittling down my posessions to only 100 items. There will always remain a few problems however, what do you do with heirlooms?

There are a few things you will need to take with you and one thing you will need in you: the single most important thing to bring along (besides the laptop to run your business, your passport and those other essentials) are your social skills. Without these, or with a fear of talking to people and being in strange places you'd might as well give in straight away.

Always greet people with a smile andyou're half way there. Be humble and helpful and the world is your playground.

Hi, Brooke,

GREAT blog! Useful information too. My husband and I entered the Digital Nomad space earlier this year and WE LOVE IT!. We are very excited that there are so many others out there that are taking advantage of technology and changing business models to live the life they want NOW, instead of waiting for SOMEDAY.

We'll keep up with you and your blog.

Have fun,
Don and Karla

Many folks probably don't spend as much time as we do in one place. But we're "slow travelers" meaning we plan to stay for 6 months to a year+ before we move on. If you're only staying for a month or so, many places you don't really have to think too much about visas.

Awesome wrap up post Brooke. The thing I have started to wonder about is the work Visa's and all that jazz, you know, the business part of working overseas. It seems like that isn't a major concern for most of the blogging LIP's.

This is a useful and detailed post which will help anyone getting started with becoming location independent, Brooke. Connection speeds are a big one. At the moment, my schedule works because I'm available for part of the day in both the US and Europe; going to the other side of the world would definitely present scheduling challenges. :)
